Does this figure from a McKinsey Report (dated) still ring true?

So, I stumbled upon this old report/article/insight from McKinsey on how Email was 40% more effective than FB, twitter and other social media platforms. Of course, this is not news to me since I am much biased towards email marketing :D

But, do these numbers still make sense? Its been about 1.5 years since this report came out.

I read the report, the figures presented are interesting. However, I don't think this is still relevant. Email campaigns will only work when the email are sent to potential customers, and this does not happen always

Yes, sending mails to relevant clients is something that isn't done by everyone.

Exactly. You always have to remember when there is data like this, if it doesn't fit where you are on the spectrum, it is completely irrelevant to you.

Despite the hype, Email marketing is still an unexploited area compared to other social media platforms. The email marketing community does not house many marketers. Also, the opt-in rate is determined by the individual input by email marketers. Other hurdles to jump are spam filters, targeting and segmentation aspects. These are not in Facebook. One just has to post and views accumulate. The platform is already optimised and has millions of viewers.

I went through the report but I have a question though. One of the ways to harness the power of the inbox as mentioned by the author is "Focus on the journey and not the clicks". I try to digest this but cannot full comprehend what he's driving at. Any clearer explanation here?
