I feel like nowadays there is no privacy especially when it comes to emails. Third party apps like Truecaller require the applicant to give them access to their email account. Honestly, I don't trust such applications and I maybe paranoid but how easy is it for the to steal other critical information from your email. Sometimes I feel like my email is naked!!!!

Woah, woah. Nobody is out here to steal your email information and most of the time it's for verification purposes. I don't know why it wasn't a second thought for you to get a separate down-and-dirty email for that kind of stuff anyway. So many apps require email verification simply because of the misfortunes that occur when they don't have them. Without email verification, sites are open for abuse.

Yeah agreed, email verification is there for a reason. You really shouldn't be paying it as much mind, sure some people can run off & sell away your email, but spam is always gonna be there as long as it makes money.

That's why it is very important to use a separate email just for that purpose. Do not use your official email across the web; do not give it away everywhere because others might get hold of it. It is your responsibility to guard its privacy. Just saying.

While it is true that giving providers access to your email account makes it pretty easy for them to see your private information, it's also very unlikely that they'll use it against you or sell it to someone who would.

Doing either of those things would mean a big hit to their reputation, not to mention that it opens them up to potentially costly lawsuits. Reputable companies don't like being sued. And if a company isn't reputable, you shouldn't do business with them anyway.

I understand about email verification and I don't find any problem with it. The problem is those apps that have access to your email. That is why I used I used True-caller as an example, because they can actually access your email contact list and transfer it their platform. I know that you give them permission but do you get it that if you are a high profile security government agent you are not allowed to give access to such apps to your email. Because, it is is very easy for them to steal to your information. Heck! Such apps even know your most frequent email contact and you think you information is secure. Nobody else has access to your emails except you just because you put on a password? It is not like I am hiding illegal information or anything but shouldn't emails be 100% percent private?

Spam is not my problem. The issue is how easy it is for platforms like Truecaller which transfer your email contact list to their platform to steal your information. Not your email address but what you have stored in your email account. We have all put out our information online anyway.

Never consider email as a safe form of correspondence. Emails sent from one's station can legally be accessed by your employer. Hackers can access your emails as well as law enforcement officers. The solution is to encrypt your emails which requires sophisticated software.

Don't apps ask for your permission for this kind of thing? They do. So, how's it stealing if you're the one giving them permission?

Also, you can uncheck any of the permissions when you signup or even after installing the app.

BTW, this feature has been around since Android ver 4.0, and has been explicitly available since ver. 4.3.

And Truecaller is a legit Swedish company not a shady operator working out of some crazy location. The company is in bed with google, microsoft and the like. Its expanding its operations now: http://techcrunch.com/2015/07/07/trueca ... messenger/

Also, I thought truecaller only asked for phone numbers to login, so I don't know why you needed to provide your email address anyways! It doesn't steal info, it builds a public directory on the cloud using information about phone numbers that you provide, so that when the next time an unknown number calls and its the President of the United States or Ellen calling you, you know that its them for real :) Also, it lets the community ensure that idiots, bigots, and crazed pollsters are reported so that people know not to pick up. Look at the impact the app's made:

Finally, Google and Apple are fairly strict about privacy, so don't worry about your info getting stolen. When they're not letting the FBI into a terrorist's phone, what makes you think they'll let someone steal your email contacts?

I quite agree with the fact that mostly it is for verification purpose. And like you said it is quite advisable to open a seperate email for that kind of stuff, that way you will free yourself of the worries of your important information been pry on.
