Microsoft email.

I registered for microsoft email some time ago. I used it for some time but found the service too stringent. They kept informing me to update my email password. This is tricky since one tends to forget or fail to record the last password you used. Anybody with experience in using Microsoft email?

Well, you have other options. Have you tried resetting your password? All you have to do is:

Click the reset your password link in the site.

Select a reason as to why you're choosing to reset.

Enter the email address you registered in.

Then, Microsoft will send you a code in the registered number or alternative email you put in the account.

If that doesn't work:

You can click the link that says you didn't receive the code. Then you'll be asked for a few details about your account to retrieve it.

Good luck!

Well, its for your own safety. However, this kind of a thing rarely happens. Maybe you try to access your mail from different locations, maybe you use a vpn or something. MS regards certain vpn services as suspicious as well.

I have learned over time to avoid generic microsoft services, as they always have too many shortcomings and are unreliable compared to open source alternatives or even private choices

Honestly, I have never signed up for microsoft email my entire life. I don't even know how it looks. How could you blame me when there is gmail?

From my experience in using Outlook/Hotmail on my old account, I feel like it's trying to be Google, but not quite getting there. Maybe if they were ahead of the curb in terms of intuitive design and features, maybe they could have beat Gmail, but I feel like it's too clunky to make that assumption otherwise.

I think gmail is the king of emails right now and it is not about to be toppled.

Yepp Gmail is the king and there is a reason for that - they listen to their customers. While microsoft, yahoo, and all the other email service providers have not changed the structure and look and feel of their services the same, gmail has evolved. It has become smarter. You can do better searches (anyone who's tried to search through yahoomail knows what I'm talking about), you can segregate emails under different emails, and you can "personalize" how you receive your emails.

The only place I feel that google hasn't focused on is a desktop email client. People on linux use Thunderbird, on windows use outlook, and Unibox? on mac (I wouldn't know since I don't own a mac). An email client is really essential. I have a mobile email client too because frankly I have a bunch of email addresses (work, play, marketing, etc.) and I want all of them to open up in one place. This is where I feel that Microsoft has always stayed ahead of Google, though anyone who has used open-source or third-party email clients knows that Microsoft isn't doing a great job in this regard either.

To my knowledge Google has been advertising for desktop notifications, but other then that there really isn't any attempt to create a client which has surprised me considering how notorious other email providers are. Same goes for Yahoo!.

Yeah. Maybe I should send a request to them for this or something. It would really complete the whole Chrome suit if a desktop client were made available.
